Overtime Exemption Not Popular In La Loche

Over 20 people took part in a public meeting last night in La Loche concerning the northern overtime exemption.

It was the first of a series of meetings that have been scheduled throughout the North over the next few weeks.

Regina Northeast MLA Ron Harper is reviewing the overtime exemption and will forward his recommendations to cabinet in the fall after the consultations.

Harper says almost everyone in attendance last night was in favour of getting rid of the exemption.

The exemption allows employers in most areas of the North to not pay their workers overtime.

Harper is scheduled to hold another public meeting in Beauval tonight at 7:00 at the arena mezzanine.

He will host a similar meeting in Buffalo Narrows tomorrow night.
