Overlooked Bands To Finally Receive TLE Money

The province’s minister of First Nations and Metis Relations says the government is attempting to correct a past mistake through this year’s budget.

Maynard Sonntag says the Sturgeon Lake, Muskoday, Pasqua and Gordon First Nations were owed Treaty Land Entitlement money at least a decade ago.

For various reasons they were never paid out, but Sonntag says that is changing this year.

Sonntag adds more money was built into this year’s budget to allow the transfers.

The bands will split more than $5 million in total.
