Overall Duck Numbers Are On The Rise

Questions are being asked about why two duck-breeds in the province are declining in numbers.

Bryan Hepworth of Ducks Unlimited, says both the Northern Pintail and Scaup are suffering losses despite good wetland conditions.

He says apart from that, duck numbers are generally up across the province.

There are an estimated 36 million breeding ducks in the Prairies, Northern Canada and Alaska this spring.

That’s 4 million more than the year before.
