Outfitters Dealing With Uncertain Times

The surging Canadian dollar is not making life any easier for Saskatchewan outfitters, according to an industry representative.

Hal Stupenikoff of the Saskatchewan Outfitters Association says northern operators have had to work doubly hard this year to keep visitor levels up.

Stupenikoff says the fact the Canadian dollar is now worth roughly $0.90 cents US is making it harder to attract customers who are used to a cheaper vacation.

As well, he says the possibility that border officials may require passports for US-Canada visits is causing concern everywhere.

On a positive note, Stupenikoff says he hasn’t heard of any camps being damaged by this week’s forest fires.
