The federal government has pledged $4.2 million towards the construction of a new water supply system for the La Ronge area.

Northern Saskatchewan MP Rob Clarke made the announcement Friday in La Ronge.

For the last few years, the local band, village and town have worked with the government on expanding the water plants and supply lines in the area.

Project manager Glen Gillis says the new distribution system is badly needed and will be a major upgrade over the old one.

According to Gillis, the treated water quality will be improved significantly.

Construction on the project began back on August 20th.
