Orchard Confirms Second Bid For Liberal Nomination

A man who some people blame for costing the Liberals a recent by-election in northern Saskatchewan says he intends to seek the Liberal nomination in Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River.

David Orchard actively campaigned for the nomination for the by-election, before the Liberals handed it to Joan Beatty.

Some widely-publicized opposition to the move by Orchard and his supporters prompted some Liberals to question Orchard’s loyalty to the party.

But Orchard says his supporters had every right to fight for a fair nomination process.

Orchard also says his decision to seek the nomination for the next federal election wasn’t a sure thing — he says he took his cue from a number of influential northerners.

Beatty has also indicated an interest in seeking the nomination again.

Orchard believes a candidate will be chosen through a series of nomination meetings before the end of June.
