Opposition Mounts Against Urban Reserve In Regina

The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is putting up a fight against the Piapot First Nation, which is trying to establish a urban reserve in north-central Regina.
CTF director David MacLean says his group is meeting with the City of Regina’s Executive Committee today to voice its strong opposition against the creation of an urban reserve in the city.
MacLean feels there are a number of valid reasons behind the federation’s opposition — including concerns about fairness and equality for non-First Nations businesses in the city.
He says its “extremely unfair” to have two different sets of rules for two different businesses that may be situated directly across the street from each other.
MacLean says the idea behind urban reserves is to create economic development for Aboriginal people in the province.
However, he says “you cannot create equality through inequality”.
First Nations officials haven’t been immediately available for comment.
