There has been another death on the ice in northern Saskatchewan.
A 36-year-old man from Brabant Lake died early this morning after he and a friend went for a quick ride on the still-frozen lake.
The RCMP say the victim was leading the way when he drove his snowmobile to a part of the lake which doesn’t ever completely freeze over.
Spokesman Sgt. Brad Kaeding says the man’s travelling companion came upon the scene in time to see the victim struggling in the water, but was unsuccessful in trying to rescue him.
Kaeding says alcohol may have been a factor in the mishap.
He also says darkness may have played a role, given that it was shortly after midnight when the accident took place.
The name of the deceased is not being released until next of kin have been notified.
This past weekend, a Patuanak man lost his life after driving his snow machine into some open water on a river near his home community.
