On-line Threats Against Sex Offender Worry Police

A Battlefords RCMP officer is alarmed by a Facebook group that has published the address of a sex offender in North Battleford.

Norbert Dumais moved to North Battleford last week after serving his entire 10-year sentence for raping an 11-year-old girl.

He’s living close to an elementary school.

Some people have posted some violent threats on the site.

Sergeant Rob Lutzko, who is responsible for making sure Dumais complies with his release, warns against vigilantism.

He says a news release warning the public that Dumais was moving to the city gave that same warning, pointing out that Dumais’ name was published to provide the public with information, not to inspire action.

Dumais has a history of sexual offences against girls and of committing other violent acts.
