The man charged in connection to the recent violence on the Okanese First Nation made his first court appearance today.

42-year-old Murray Alvin Stonechild was arrested following a two-hour standoff with police on the reserve Tuesday morning.

Stonechild has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, unlawfully possessing a restricted weapon, possession of a weapon without a licence, and using a firearm in the commission of an indictable offence.

A man and a male youth from the reserve were taken to hospital with gunshot wounds several hours before the standoff.

They have been released from hospital and are expected to make full recoveries.

Stonechild will remain in custody until his next court appearance in Fort Qu’Appelle on Monday.

He did not enter a plea to any of the charges.
