Plans to develop a camp for northern Saskatchewan residents working in Alberta’s oilsands could solidify in the next six to eight months, according to an official on the West Side.

Doug Eddy of the Buffalo Narrows Economic Development Corporation says the idea is aimed at providing northern residents with a place to sleep while working in Fort McMurray.

He says mobile homes could act as shelters for the workers, with other facilities on site.

Meanwhile, Eddy says plans to develop Buffalo Narrows’ infrastructure continue for the expected influx of Alberta residents and tourists a new road link to Fort McMurray will bring.

He says one idea is to construct a new town centre featuring a three-story shopping mall.
