The president of the Union of B.C. Indian Chiefs is blasting the Conservatives over comments made recently by one of their assistants.

Recent video emerged of campaign staffer Darlene Lannigan telling some aboriginal residents of Lawrence Cannon’s constituency they could visit Canon’s office when they were sober.

At least one of the residents has publicly stated he and his friends weren’t being pushy or aggressive but only wanted a meeting with the minister.

Grand Chief Stewart Philip says he can’t believe the remarks.

Philip believes the remarks are indicative of a systemic problem within the party.
