The Native Women’s Association of Canada is disappointed with the verdict in the murder trial of Robert William Pickton.

Yesterday, a jury found Pickton guilty of six counts of second-degree murder related to the deaths of sex trade workers in Vancouver’s downtown eastside.

NWAC President Beverly Jacobs says she was stunned Pickton wasn’t found guilty of first-degree murder.

Jacbos says this development illustrates why her organization’s work is important.

She believes it shows that our society is not taking this issue seriously.

Jacobs says her organization will work to connect with the friends and families of 20 other victims for whom Pickton may face another murder trial.

She hopes that this case will raise awareness that Aboriginal women are being targeted all across the country.
