The senior advisor to the Nuclear Waste Management Organization says his group would not try to create a dump site for nuclear materials in northern Saskatchewan without first getting the permission of local residents.

Tony Hodge says the North is geologically-suited to host such a site.

However, he acknowledges a lot of planning would have to go into it first.

Hodge says extensive consultations would have to take place with local residents before anything happened.

He adds Saskatchewan’s familiarity with the nuclear industry makes it well-equipped to handle such a facility.
