Nuclear Reactor Supporterd By PA Chamber

A recent survey suggests a strong majority of the Prince Albert and District Chamber of Commerce members support the uranium industry and construction of a nuclear reactor in the region.
Of those members who responded to the survey from the chamber’s environment committee, 83 per cent supported construction of a nuclear reactor that would generate steam to produce electricity.
The same number supported the construction of a uranium refinery, while 90 per cent supported the development of research facilities in Saskatchewan.
The Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce and members of the uranium industry have said another uranium refinery is needed in the province.
Larry Aitken, incoming chairman for the Prince Albert chamber, says any location in northern Saskatchewan for a refinery would benefit Prince Albert.
But Ann Coxworth, of the Saskatchewan Environmental Society, says expanding the province’s uranium industry and building a nuclear reactor would create problems at both the local and worldwide levels.
