Not All CEP Claims Open For Reconsideration

A government official says not all residential school survivors qualify for a reconsideration process regarding compensation claims.

According to the Office of Indian Residential Schools Resolution Canada, that process just got underway.

Spokesman David Russell says former day students — as well as those that attended schools that aren’t on the official list — need not apply.

However, Russell says anyone else who isn’t satisfied with how their initial claim was dealt with is welcome to re-apply under this new process.

He says people who have been denied in their first attempt should feel free to apply for reconsideration — even if they haven’t uncovered any more evidence to support their claim.

Russell adds anyone not happy with how the reconsideration process turns out will have another avenue of appeal after that.
