Northwest Hit By Prolonged Power Outage

Roughly 15,000 homes and businesses covering a very large area of northwest Saskatchewan were affected by a power outage yesterday and through the night.

Affected customers in the Meadow Lake area north to Buffalo Narrows had to make do without power for three hours late yesterday afternoon.

But for people living in areas like Turtleford, Cochin and Spiritwood — the power only came back on at about 5:50 this morning.

SaskPower spokesman Larry Christie says it appears a lightning strike on a power pole is to blame.

Christie estimates 5,000 homes and businesses were without power for 14 hours.
