The provincial government has today officially announced details of its $200 fuel oil and propane heating grant, but a government official admits many northerners have already applied.

The government is providing the rebate as part of its province-wide plan to help people cope with high home heating costs.

Industry and Resources spokesman Jeff Ritter says northerners have obviously already been getting their hands on the application forms that are out there, since the department is being flooded with calls and application forms.

Aside from local government offices and bulk fuel outlets, people can obtain forms by going to the department’s website at www.ir.gov.sk.ca or by calling 1-877-UESHARE.

Ritter says applicants will have to send some proof they pay for propane and heating oil when they send in their forms.

The deadline for application forms to be completed is March 31st.

Ritter estimates it will take the department between four to six weeks to process each claim.
