Northern Youth Turning Heads In Health Community

Youth from the Buffalo River Dene Nation and Ile-a-la-Crosse have been given a chance to help improve health care in their communities.

Under a University of Saskatchewan project, they were given disposable cameras and they took pictures of anything regarding health or fitness in their communities.

They shared their observations and concerns with researchers — then with community leaders.

The “Through Their Eyes” project was outlined during an international meeting on Indigenous Childrens’ Health in New Mexico recently.

Breanna Davis of Prince Albert helped with the project, and is pleased it was driven by the youth.

It’s part of a program run by the University of Saskatchewan.
