Tourism Saskatchewan has announced the finalists for its upcoming tourism awards of excellence — and a number of them are from northern Saskatchewan.

NorSask Aviation in La Ronge and Dakota Dunes Golf Links near Saskatoon are two of the finalists for small Business of the Year.

Elk Ridge Resort near Waskesiu has been named a finalist for large Business of the Year.

Robertson Trading in La Ronge is up for the Spirit of Saskatchewan Award, the Allen Sapp Gallery in North Battleford is a finalist for the Creative Excellence Award, and Sundogs Excursions at Waskesiu is one of the businesses in the running for the Land of Living Skies Award.

Meanwhile, the Hatchet Lake Lodge has made the final list of nominations for the Gil Carduner Marketing Award for larger businesses.

Hatchet Lake’s George Fleming is a finalist for the Fred Heal Tourism Ambassador Award, while Air Ronge’s Dave Smallwood has been named a finalist of the Tourism Media Award for Travel Journalism.

Tourism Saskatchewan official Carol Lumb says it’s fitting that so many finalists are from the North, given the region’s natural beauty.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony in Regina on April 19th.
