The provincial government is increasing rates for northern medical taxi operators effective immediately.

For trips that begin in the north or south, the rate is increasing by seven cents a kilometre.

The rate for waiting times will rise by two dollars an hour.

These increases will bring the rates up to 82 cents per kilometre, and up to 22 dollars an hour for waiting time.

This is the first time there has been an increase since 2002.

The government has agreed to adjust rates annually, according to Meadow Lake MLA Jeremy Harrison.
