Northern Road Work Will Begin Next Spring

A spokesman with the provincial government says work on northern roads will begin next spring.

However, Doug Wakabyashi says it’s still too soon to say which projects will get the green light first.

Yesterday, Saskatchewan Premiere Lorne Calvert unveiled how the province plans to use $65 million to improve northern infrastructure. Much of the money will go towards construction of an all-weather road network in the far north.

Glen Strong, of the Athabasca Economic Development Corporation, says it’s nice to see the province taking the lead on the initiative and not waiting around for Ottawa.

Strong says right now he doesn’t have any worries over the project, noting the province is providing $28 million to begin construction in the spring.
