The Red Earth First Nation has begun preparing for a possible flood.

Chief Miller Nawakayas says work crews have begun piling sandbags around public buildings and at-risk areas.

He says the band is also talking with officials at the Saskatchewan Watershed Authority about when the waters may rise.

Nawakayas says the level of the Red Earth River is OK as of today, but it’s expected to become a problem within a few days.

He says preparations have already been made to house evacuees in hotels in Prince Albert and Saskatoon.

However, he notes life on the reserve is fairly calm right now, with most people going about their daily routines.
