Northern Reading Challenge Underway

The annual Northern Reading Program kicked off yesterday.

This year’s theme is “Fishing for a Good Read”.

Program co-ordinator Harriet Roy says they get a great response from northern communities every year and this year is no different.

36 schools and communities have signed up for this year’s event, which Roy says offers a number of different activities to promote reading — including the annual reading competition between communities.

The community of Buffalo Narrows currently holds the title of Northern Reading Champion, one it’s held for 2 years in a row.

Roy says if northern communities don’t want to participate in that specific challenge, there are other ways to get involved in the Northern Reading Program.

The competition portion of the reading program wraps up on February 27th.
