Youth justice is one of the main topics of discussion today at a gathering of provincial politicians and northern mayors in La Ronge.

The two sides are sitting down together for another northern municipal roundtable with six provincial cabinet ministers.

The mayors asked that young offender resources be put on today’s agenda. It’s been confirmed that the discussion surrounds the re-integration of young offenders back into the community and a proposal to establish a youth healing lodge in the North.

The mayors are also questioning the ministers about the 200-million dollars the provincial government is putting into housing province-wide over the next 5 years.

Minister responsible Joanne Crofford says northern Saskatchewan has been identified as one of the main target areas for that funding, but says it’s still too early to know how much the North is getting.

The mayors and cabinet ministers also plan to talk about northern development and recreational services, as well as New North’s proposal to establish bus service in northwest Saskatchewan.
