Northern Mayor Makes Budget Wish List

The mayor of Ile-a-la-Crosse says he is hopeful new money for northern infrastructure will be announced in tomorrow’s provincial budget.

Max Morin says, based on a recent assessment, many northern communities still need upgrades to sewage and water treatment services.

He credits the government with coming through on upgrades to northern roads, but says other services need work.

Morin adds northern municipalities have a tougher time balancing their books than most.

He says most funding commitments are based on a per-capita basis of population.

However, he doesn’t think that’s fair, as northern communities have different needs and dynamics than their southern counterparts.
