A judge has sentenced a northern Saskatchewan man to 11 years in jail for the killing of a Pelican Narrows resident.

Alvin Morin died in August of last year after an incident broke out in a residence at the reserve.

A woman was also injured.

38-year-old John Andrew Sewap was arrested by police shortly afterwards and charged with second-degree murder and aggravated assault.

He ended up pleading guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter.

The judge also handed him a three-year sentence for the aggravated assault, which will be served concurrently with the manslaughter sentence.
