Northern Issues Get Attention at SUMA Meeting

The head of New North says it’s been a productive week for northern municipalities at the SUMA convention in Regina.

Dale McAuley says northern leaders were able to convince delegates at the convention to push through a motion that calls on the province to set aside infrastructure money specifically for northern communities.

McAuley says northern municipalities are losing out on badly-needed funding because they often have to go head-to-head with the rest of the province’s municipalities.

McAuley also says northern mayors got a commitment from the provincial government to provide an additional 6 million dollars in funding this year to help northern communities clear a backlog of sewer and water projects.
