Northern Health Region Pleased With Recent Survey

Officials with a northern health region are pleased with the outcome of a recent accreditation survey.

The Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation reviewed the performance of the Mamawetan Churchill River Regional Health Authority in June.

The accreditation assessment is a national program that compares health regions’ quality of care and services to national standards.

Much like the last survey three years ago, the Mamawetan Churchill River achieved the second-highest level of accredition.

Spokesperson Teresa Heinrichs notes that in 2003, the surveyors’ report had 12 recommendations — three of which had to be acted on within six months.

This time around, the council had 10 recommendations for the health authority, with two that have to be followed up on within a year.

Heinrichs says this independent assessment proves the health region is making progress.

Heinrichs also says this sort of outcome has the potential to help the health region in its recruiting efforts.

The two most important recommendations relate to the development of an ethics program within the region and participation in a mock community disaster exercise.
