It appears the RCMP is looking into affairs at the Island Lake First Nation.

The Mounties won’t confirm an investigation is taking place, but an official with Indian Affairs says the department has been made aware a probe is underway.

James Parker can’t say what kind of RCMP investigation is taking place, but adds that it was not prompted by Indian Affairs.

Parker also says the department will cooperate fully with the RCMP if asked.

Indian Affairs officials will be at the First Nation tomorrow for a public meeting to discuss the band’s finances.
