The chief of one of Saskatchewan’s largest First Nations is glad that roughly half of the people attending a major economic summit in Prince Albert today are of Aboriginal ancestry.
Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation Chief Darrell McCallum is one of over 150 delegates braving the frigid temperatures to attend the opening day of “The North: Unleashed”.
Business experts from across the province and around the country are in the city to talk about the economic potential that exists in northern Saskatchewan in a variety of industries.
McCallum says it’s important that his people don’t get left behind.
In a speech this morning on understanding the growth in northern Saskatchewan, financial analyst Paul Martin noted northern First Nations have now moved ahead of their southern counterparts in terms of economic development, because they are now chasing wealth instead of only jobs.
The summit will wrap up on Thursday.
