Northern Diabetes Fundraising Trek Underway

The 2006 Northern Diabetes Relay kicked off today.

The event is taking place in over a dozen northern towns and villages in an effort to raise money for exercise projects at the community level.

Jocelyn Chandler is a physiotherapist organizing the event.

Chandler says volunteers in many different villages will began a 75-km trek earlier this afternoon.

She says the volunteers will walk or run 25 kilometres a day until Sunday.

She adds all the money raised will stay in the north.
