A multi-million-dollar economic development initiative for northern Saskatchewan has been extended for another year.

The provincial and federal governments announced the extension of the 5-year, $20-million Northern Development Agreement this morning.

The initiative has seen funding committed to strategic projects that involve economic infrastructure, innovation, employment opportunities, capacity building and attracting investment.

The extension does not require an increase in funding, since not all of the funding has been committed to projects.

To date, roughly $14 million has been announced to support 43 projects.
