Northern Businesses Warned About Phone Scam

Northern business owners are being advised to be aware of a new scam relating to employee safety training.

The La Ronge and District Chamber of Commerce released the advisory today urging local business owners to be aware of the phone scam.

Local business owners have reported being contacted by a training company, pressuring them into arranging unnecessary safety training for their employees.

The training company reportedly advises the employer that federal legislation requires their employees to take courses in workplace hazardous materials or WHMIS.

Police say the company appears to have made false representation about the training.

Anyone recieving a similar phone call is urged to report the call and contact WHMIS officials.
