Northern Affairs Position Axed In Budget

One position is being eliminated at Northern Affairs in La Ronge as a result of this week’s provincial budget.

It is because the former stand-alone department and current division of the Ministry of First Nations and Metis Relations will see less funding devoted to certain northern development programs.

Northern Affairs spokesman Richard Turkheim says the commercial loans program will be discontinued as of April 1st, because interest in it has dwindled over the past few years.

Turkheim says any loans granted in the past will still be carried out.
