The provincial department of Northern Affairs will soon have a new deputy minister.

Alan Hilton will assume his new duties on September 19th.

Hilton takes over from Larry Steeves, who will now become the associate deputy minister in the Department of Learning.

Hilton has served in the provincial government since 1981.

Most recently, he was the associate deputy minister of Federal-Provincial Relations and Immigration in the Department of Government Relations.

Premier Lorne Calvert says Hilton understands the issues facing individuals and communities in northern Saskatchewan.

Like his predecessors, Hilton will be based out of Regina.

Hilton is currently visiting La Ronge, and plans to be visible at tomorrow’s roundtable between government ministers and northern mayors.
