Saskatchewan’s new deputy minister of Northern Affairs insists he is no stranger to the North.

Alan Hilton, who was recently promoted to the position, says he has frequented the region for the past several years during his work with Intergovernmental Affairs.

Hilton also sat in on last week’s roundtable discussion between provincial cabinet ministers and northern mayors and says he will do a lot more talking with northerners in the months to come.

He will continue to be stationed in Regina, but says he plans to visit La Ronge at least once a month.

Hilton says his first job as deputy minister will be to listen to the concerns and comments of grassroots citizens.
