North Battleford Urban Reserve Deal Almost Done

The Red Pheasant First Nation and the City of North Battleford have hammered out an agreement in principle for a new urban reserve in the city.

There are still some outstanding issues on both sides, but the deal is expected to be brought forward for ratification by both councils by the end of May.

The band and the city have been negotiating an urban reserve services agreement since the band bought the land in the mid-1990s.

In 2002, the band took the case to arbitration, and an arbitrator ruled the city had negotiated in bad faith.

According to city manager Jim Toye, both sides are trying to find ways to come to a final agreement this time around.

The area in question covers nearly 350 acres.
