Norsask Mill Will Re-open: MLTC

Although it’s been shut down for months, the Norsask Forest Products mill will eventually go back into production, a spokesman says.

Ben Voss, CEO of MLTC Resource Developments, which owns the mill, says the U.S. housing market will eventually pick up again.

When that happens, the demand for lumber will rise, the mill will make money, and workers will be called back.

It’s just a question of when.

About 40 Norsask workers lost their jobs when the mill was shut down in March, due to a slow U.S housing market.

The province and a couple of companies are looking at turning the P.A. Pulp Mill into an ethanol plant.

Voss says he can’t see that happening with the Norsask mill.

Workers just have to wait out the downturn, he says.
