The hotly-contested federal Liberal nomination in northern Saskatchewan gets decided today.

Party members in Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River are choosing between Joan Beatty and David Orchard.

Polls opened in 10 communities at 2:30 this afternoon, and will remain open until 9:00 this evening.

It’s believed to be the first time the party has held nomination meetings in that many communities in any riding.

The polling locations include Pelican Lake, Canoe Narrows, Cumberland House, Deschbambault Lake, La Ronge, Meadow Lake, Pelican Narrows, Pinehouse, Prince Albert and Red Earth.

Beatty says she feels good about her campaign, and is encouraging grassroots party members to make their voice heard.

Orchard says he’s been looking forward to today’s vote, and adds he’s racked up thousands of kilometres on his vehicle travelling throughout the riding.

Today’s voting is open to any Liberal member in the consituency 14 years of age and older.

Party brass say results should be known by tomorrow.
