No Fix-Up Plan Yet For Hwy. 102: Highways Minister

The provincial government won’t be pouring money into the pothole-filled highway north of La Ronge just yet.

Highways Minister Wayne Elhard says that motorists hoping to see repairs to Highway 102 will have to wait a while longer.

The government is evaluating all of the roads that need fixing in northern Saskatchewan.

Work on Highway 102 will be scheduled once that process is complete.

Cumberland MLA Doyle Vermette presented a petition in the Legislature yesterday, urging the government to repair Highway 102, which he says has become unsafe, for industry, tourists and local residents alike.

Elhard did, however, promise to address another of Vermette’s concerns — the Highway Creek bridge, 40 kilometres south of La Ronge, which Vermette said is caving in.

Elhard said that the bridge itself is structurally sound, but he agreed that repairs are needed to make the approach to the bridge safer. Repaving will be done on that stretch of road in the near future.
