No Conflict Between Roles: McKnight

The province’s treaty commissioner says he doesn’t see a conflict of interest with his recent appointment to a northern mining company board.

Bill McKnight was named this week to the board of directors of Great Western Minerals.

He says he sees no problem with juggling both portfolios, noting he’s already on the boards of other organizations.

McKnight also notes that the treaty commissioner post is not a full-time job.

“I assumed the appointment as a part-time appointment, which seems to be every day I’m not doing something else — it’s pretty well full-time — but I kept the options open that I would be able to do other things with my life, and other ways to contribute maybe to the well-being of the people of this province,” he says.

McKnight says he will also remove himself from any decision-making roles, should a conflict present itself.
