New Witness In Stonechild Case: Lawyer

A lawyer for a police officer fired in the Neil Stonechild affair says there’s new evidence the youth wasn’t in custody on the night he died.

Aaron Fox says a new witness undermines any suggestion his client, Larry Hartwig, or his partner, Brad Senger, were involved in Stonechild’s death in 1990.

Fox is hoping to convince the Saskatchewan Police Commission to allow the new evidence in an appeal of the officers’ dismissals.

In 2004, a public inquiry found that Hartwig and Senger had Stonechild in their custody the night the 17-year-old Aboriginal youth was last seen alive.
