There will be a new top judge in Saskatchewan’s provincial court next year.
Justice Minister Frank Quennell says Carol Snell, a former provincial court judge who currently serves as the province’s associate chief judge, will take on the job January 1st, 2008.
She replaces Chief Judge Gerald Seniuk, who took on the post in 2001.
Quennell says Seniuk has made a considerable contribution to improving the court’s relationship with aboriginal people.
Snell says Seniuk has provided a lot of leadership to the court in the areas of technological innovation, the independence of judges and making the courts more accessible to aboriginal people.
Snell became a provincial court judge in 1999, after working as a Crown prosecutor and becoming the head of special projects for the Public Prosecutions Branch of Saskatchewan Justice.
