New Partnership Expected To Benefit Boreal Forest

The Saskatchewan Forest Centre and Ducks Unlimited say the recent signing of a partnership agreement should allow the two groups to concentrate more heavily on projects in the boreal forest.
The agreement doesn’t have a set timeframe to it — only the promise that information will be shared between the forest centre and Ducks Unlimited, starting today.
The centre, based in Prince Albert, is a newly constructed building designed to be a meeting ground for government, industry and forest-based academics.
Its CEO, Robin Woodward, says by tapping into Ducks Unlimited’s robust database, the forest centre should have important environmental information for forestry groups who have questions about specific areas.
He notes one major project underway right now sees representatives from Ducks Unlimited charting various eco-systems near the community of Beauval.
Woodward says the more they know about ecosystems in that area, the more they can pass onto industry.
He explains increasing sustainable management practices is one of the mandates of the forest centre, so the partnership is already starting to pay off.
Watershed restoration and agro-forestry programming are also key components of the deal.
