The new Saskatchewan Liberal Party candidate in the Athabasca riding says she wants to hear from grassroots constituents before deciding what her main priorities will be in the upcoming provincial election.
Malvina Iron, a member of the Canoe Lake Cree Nation, has officially replaced Nathan Opikokew as the Liberal representative in the constituency.
Opikokew and the Liberals recently parted ways amid relevations that he was facing criminal charges and intending to leave the Liberals to join the NDP.
Iron says she was initially approached about the position some time ago, but was unable to take the role until now.
Iron plans to spend the upcoming days talking with northern residents about their needs and wants before establishing her platform.
She is a long-time educator and community outreach worker, and is currently working on a university degree in Saskatoon.
