The provincial government says the North and inner cities will be the main beneficiaries of a new 200-million-dollar affordable housing program unveiled yesterday.
The HomeFrst initiative is targeted at low to moderate-income families, especially First Nations and Metis people and northern residents.
It will see the construction of 2-thousand new homes for ownership or rental over the next 5 years.
As well, over 3-thousand homes will be repaired and made more energy efficient.
The province also plans to introduce a new housing supplement next year that is expected to benefit up to 10-thousand low-income families.
