A Federal program aimed at involving seniors in the community is being offered in the North.

Officials with Social Development Canada say community groups with ideas of how to better involve elders with other citizens could receive as much as twenty-five thousand dollars.

The money is being offered under the Government’s New Horizons Initiative.

Community Liaison Officer, Joy Bateman, says the type of activity chosen for the seniors doesn’t matter so much, as long as they are behind it and directly involved.

Bateman says they are encouraging proposals that deal with intergenerational or cultural connections, as well as peer support and networking.

Persons or groups who have a funding proposal should contact Social Development Canada by September 16th.
