New Dam Creating Unsafe Ice Conditions

The Saskatchewan Watershed Authority has issued a warning to residents in the Beauval area.

Authority spokesman Don Dill says on or around December 1st, the authority will be opening the new Lac La Plonge Dam.

Dill says that will create higher water flows on the La Plonge and Beaver Rivers, making conditions extremely dangerous.

He notes that with the water flows increasing, there are going to be sections of the river that have severely thin conditions or no ice at all.

As a result, he says snowmobilers and anyone in the area will have to use extreme caution or find an alternate route.

The water flow warning is expected to stay in effect all winter.
