Northerners that will be affected by new government boating regulations are being encouraged to attend an information session in La Ronge this Friday.

The Northern Developement Board Corporation is extending an open invitation to the public to attend a consultative workshop to discuss new small vessel regulations.

Transport Canada Marine Safety is proposing a series of new rules that will impact commercial fisherman, wild rice growers and harvesters as well as outfitters.

Dean Desjarlais, CEO of the Northern Development Board, says many important issues will be tackled in tomorrows meeting, including an overview of the anticipated certification and safety requirements.

The meeting will be held at the Kikinahk Friendship Centre Friday morning (Apr. 22) at 10 am.

There is no cost to attend the event.

Desjarlais wanted to stress, that although the Northern Development Board is co-hosting the event, they are in no way supportive of the new regulations.
